Óðinstorg Square

Óðinstorg transforms a former parking lot in central Reykjavík into a flexible public square shaped by movement, gathering, and seasonal change. Positioned at the intersection of five streets, the project uses the site’s natural slope to create a series of stepped public spaces that support everyday life as well as larger events.

Located between a residential neighbourhood and the lively commercial street Skólavörðustígur, the square is organized as three stepped platforms shaped by the site’s natural slope. Each platform has a dedicated function: outdoor dining, a public garden and playground, and a flexible market and stage area. Together, they can also host larger public events, using the slope as a natural amphitheatre.
The lighting design creates an inviting and playful atmosphere that helps extend the vitality of the square through Reykjavík’s long winter season.
