Skjólgarður Nursing Home

Skjólgarður Nursing Home is the winning proposal from an open competition held in 2019. It is a three ward nursing home with specialized community functions inhabiting the existing building as well as a new annex that circles a protected interior courtyard. The building sits on an oceanside plot overlooking the majestic glacier, Vatnajökull. The concept is based on the Eden Ideology, emphasizing empowerment for the fragile inhabitants by connecting them with nature, animals and people of all ages.
