DESCRIPTION

3rd prize in an idea competition for the appearance and surroundings of Stöng in Þjórsárdalur. The forms of the buildings are simple and modern and do not try to „recreate“ the original buildings. A light steel frame construction, clad in mirrored glass encases the ruins. Reflecting it´s surroundings, the building seeks to merge with it´s environment. At the same time it becomes a metaphor for a protective jewel case. The various building parts are reflected in one another and the guest in turn becomes a part of that picture as he is reminded of his presence and participation in history.
