Hafnartorg Gallery

Hafnartorg Gallery is a new destination for local and foreign guests with a focus on food, culture and shopping in the heart of Reykjavik’s city center. The design concept of the space is that of a gallery or public space where culinary, cultural, and retail activities are carefully orchestrated to create a dynamic and cosmopolitan experience.

Retail units are distributed along the periphery of the space, with natural light and direct access from the street. In the interior of the space, restaurants are arranged as islands that distribute the flow of guests and provide a rich variety of seating areas with multiple seating arrangements and different atmospheres. The restaurant and retail units have been carefully designed to represent the core values and brand identities of each operator, celebrating diversity while maintaining a wholistic design strategy.

The use of wood, colourful handmade tiles, and raw steel in the restaurant units creates a delicate balance with the carefully designed furniture. The gallery wall in the lounge area acts as a strong design element that creates a bridge between the interior of the food hall and the surrounding stores all the way to the street and hosts temporary art exhibitions.
