The new Earth Lagoon Mývatn is beginning to take shape
RÚV recently visited the construction site

Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV) recently visited the construction site of the new Earth Lagoon Mývatn, offering a glimpse of the ongoing works as preparations continue for the reopening of this important destination in northern Iceland later this summer.
From the outset, the ambition of the project has been to let the landscape and geology guide the design. Throughout construction, the site has continued to reveal unexpected discoveries, most notably a previously unknown lava cave measuring 105 metres in length and 12 metres in depth beneath the building. The cave contains exceptionally rare crystal formations created by geothermal activity.
Now undergoing a protection process, the discovery has had a significant impact on both the development and design of the project. It serves as a powerful reminder of the unique and fragile nature of the Mývatn region and reinforces the project's commitment to building with the landscape rather than against it.
