Iceland’s bathing traditions and their role in bringing people together will take centre stage at Scandinavia House in New York on 2 October 2026, as part of Taste of Iceland.

SOAK: The Radical Act of Bathing Together will explore how water, architecture and shared rituals can strengthen communities. The event draws on SOAK: Rituals of Collective Belonging, Iceland’s contribution to the 2027 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Speakers include architect and curator Marcos Zotes of Basalt Architects and designer and CEO Kristín Eva Ólafsdóttir of Gagarín, both members of the SOAK team; architect and author Christie Pearson, whose work explores bathing culture and public space; and Miodrag Mitrašinović, Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at Parsons School of Design. They will give presentations and join a panel discussion moderated by writer and filmmaker Andri Snær Magnason.

The event runs from 4–6 pm at Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue. Admission is free, but tickets are required.
